MCA debt in Iowa
Small businesses carry the Iowa economy: roughly 290,000 of them employ about 46% of the state's workers, per the SBA's 2025 state profile. The biggest small-business employers are in health care, restaurants and manufacturing, where card-split and daily-ACH advances are widespread.
Iowa MCA law: what actually protects you
Do funders have to disclose the cost?
Iowa has not enacted a commercial financing or MCA disclosure law, so funders don't have to show you a standardized total cost or APR before you sign.
Can a funder get a judgment without a lawsuit?
Iowa allows a confession of judgment without a lawsuit if the debtor signs a verified statement of specific facts filed with the clerk (Iowa Code ch. 676). It is barred in consumer credit. Treat any confession in an MCA seriously.
Interest-rate limits
Iowa exempts corporations and credit for business or agricultural purposes from its rate limits (Iowa Code 535.2), so Iowa usury law rarely helps.
What this means for Iowa owners
Because Iowa still allows confessions of judgment, a funder may be able to get a judgment quickly if you signed one. Find out before you miss a payment, not after. On the rate side, Iowa law gives business borrowers little usury protection, so your leverage is more likely to come from the reconciliation clause, documentation of your revenue and a clear plan for each funder.
