MCA debt in Maryland
Maryland has about 696,700 small businesses, which account for roughly 48% of the state's employment, according to the SBA Office of Advocacy's 2025 profile. Health care, professional services and restaurants employ the most people, and those are sectors where daily or weekly MCA debits are common.
Maryland MCA law: what actually protects you
Disclosure
Maryland has not enacted an MCA disclosure law. A 2026 bill (SB 881) that would have required licensing and disclosures for sales-based financing passed the Senate 42–0 but was not enacted, so the issue is likely to return.
Confessions of judgment
Maryland allows confessed judgments in commercial deals under Md. Rule 2-611. The court can enter judgment without prior notice, and you then have a limited time (generally 30 days, or 60 if you're out of state) to move to vacate. Timing is critical.
Usury
Maryland exempts loans to corporations and commercial loans over $15,000 not secured by a residence from its usury limits, so usury arguments are limited.
What this means for Maryland owners
Because Maryland still allows confessions of judgment, a funder may be able to get a judgment quickly if you signed one. Find out before you miss a payment, not after. On the rate side, Maryland law gives business borrowers little usury protection, so your leverage is more likely to come from the reconciliation clause, documentation of your revenue and a clear plan for each funder.

How we help Maryland owners
Our role is narrow on purpose: we're independent advisors, paid a flat fee, with no lender partnerships and no cut of any settlement. For Maryland owners that means a free first review of your MCA contracts and cash flow, then a written plan weighing reconciliation, renegotiation, refinancing, settlement through a licensed provider, or attorney review.

We work with owners throughout Maryland, including Baltimore, Columbia, Silver Spring, Germantown, Frederick and the D.C. suburbs.
