Insights — Checklist

What to bring to an MCA debt review: a documents checklist.

A review is only as good as the paperwork behind it. Bring these and you'll leave with real options instead of guesses.

The short answer: Bring every merchant cash advance contract you've signed, three to six months of business bank statements, any default notices, lawsuit papers or UCC lien letters, and a list of your other business debts. With those, a consultant can see every daily and weekly debit and show you which options actually fit.

The core documents

  1. Every MCA contract, including stacked advances. The purchase price, the payback amount, the daily or weekly debit and the reconciliation clause all come from the contract.
  2. Three to six months of business bank statements. They show every debit, which funder took it and how your deposits move week to week.
  3. Any notices you've received. Default letters, UCC lien notices sent to your customers, and lawsuit or confession of judgment papers change what's urgent.
  4. A list of your other business debts. Loans, lines of credit, equipment financing and tax balances, with the monthly payment for each.

Helpful, if you have them

  • Your merchant processing statements, especially if any advance is split-funded.
  • A simple profit and loss statement for the last year, or your last business tax return.
  • Emails or texts with funders or brokers about payment changes, renewals or new offers.
  • Any personal guarantee you signed. Here's what happens to a personal guarantee if the business closes.

What we do with them

Renaissance Capital Advisors reviews your contracts, bank statements and cash flow, shows you your realistic options and builds a plan with you. That can include a reconciliation request, restructuring, settlement, refinancing or SBA options. We don't lend money, negotiate with funders or provide legal services. When a case needs an attorney, we refer you to our partner law firm; when it doesn't, to a partner debt settlement firm. New Jersey clients are always referred to an outside provider. Not sure who you need? Read consultant, settlement company or lawyer.

Frequently asked questions

What if I can't find one of my MCA contracts?
Ask the funder or your broker for a copy in writing. Your bank statements also show the funder's name and debit amount, which is enough to start the review.

Do I need to bring tax returns?
They help but aren't required for a first review. Bank statements and your MCA contracts matter most. Tax returns become important if refinancing or an SBA loan is on the table.

Is my information kept confidential?
Yes. The review is free and confidential. Rencap doesn't share your documents with funders or lenders without your permission.
